A Brief History

Long before this mountainous Tennessee terrain became known as the Great Smoky Mountain National, it was been home to pre-historic Native Americans, early European settlers, American loggers—whose work did much to endanger the area—as well as members of the Civilian Conservation Corps, a group dedicated to providing work while instilling the importance of conservation during the great depression. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park was founded in 1934, legally preserving its beauty for generations to come—a work that is continued as passionately today as it was in 1934.
